My First Experience with a Duale Ausbildung

• Healthcare (Gesundheitswesen) – for example as a nurse assistant.

How Does it Work in Practice?

Let’s say Mary Carry is doing a duale Ausbildung as a Baker (Bäckerin).

• At the Bakery: She learns how to bake bread, cakes, and pastries. She learns about ingredients and different baking techniques. Die Zubereitung der Brote ist sehr spannend! (Preparing the breads is very exciting!)
• At the Vocational School: She learns about food science, hygiene standards, and business management for a bakery. Ich lerne, wie man ein Geschäft führt. (I’m learning how to run a business.)

After a few years, she’ll have a recognized qualification, which makes her ready for a full-time job as a baker.

Companies love the duale Ausbildung because they get to train apprentices ( Auszubildende) who understand their business. And the apprentices get to learn skills that are directly useful in the workplace.
