Mein Hobby-Leben: Wie man Hobbys und Freizeitaktivitäten beschreibt
Hello everyone, my name is John Doe, and I want to help you talk about your hobbies and what you do in your free time in German. It’s a really important part of the language, and it’s much more common than you might think!
Let’s start with the basics. The most important thing is to know how to say “I like…” in German. It’s “Ich mag…”
- Ich mag Fußball. (I like football.)
- Ich mag Lesen. (I like reading.)
- Ich mag Musik hören. (I like listening to music.)
Now, let’s talk about describing your hobbies. A good way to do this is to say “Ich habe eine(n) …” which means “I have a…” followed by the hobby.
- Ich habe eine Leidenschaft für Kochen. (I have a passion for cooking.)
- Ich habe ein Hobby, das ist Wandern. (My hobby is hiking.)
- Ich habe ein Hobby: Ich spiele Gitarre. (My hobby: I play guitar.)
You can also use the word “Zeit” (time) to talk about how much time you spend on something.
- Ich verbringe viel Zeit mit Malen. (I spend a lot of time painting.)
- Ich verbringe meine Freizeit mit Lesen. (I spend my free time reading.)
Here are some common words to describe activities:
- Lesen – to read
- Sport treiben – to do sports
- Musik hören – to listen to music
- Kochen – to cook
- Wandern – to hike
- Fotografieren – to take photographs
- Tanzen – to dance
- Gärtnern – to garden
Let’s practice. Imagine you’re talking to Mary Carry at a work event. You could say:
“Ich habe ein paar Hobbys. Ich mag gerne Lesen und ich treibe Sport. Ich gehe oft joggen.” (I have a few hobbies. I like reading and I do sports. I often go jogging.)
Or, if you’re talking to a friend, you could say:
“Was machst du in deiner Freizeit? Ich spiele Gitarre und ich koche gerne.” (What do you do in your free time? I play guitar and I like to cook.)
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! The more you practice, the better you’ll become. Viel Erfolg! (Good luck!)
