Explaining changes in living situation since A2

Mein Leben Jetzt: Changes After A2

Hallo! My name is Thomas Schmidt, and I’m learning English. It’s really important for my job, so I want to share a little bit about how my life has changed since I finished my A2 German course.

A2 is a good level. I could understand simple conversations and write short emails. But now, things are different. I need to use my German more often, and I’ve made some changes.

Moving House

One big change was moving. Before, I lived with my parents in a small village. Now, I live in a flat in a city – Berlin! It’s much busier, but it’s closer to my work.

  • “Ich habe ein neues Apartment gekauft.” (I bought a new apartment.)
  • “Es ist größer als mein altes Haus.” (It’s bigger than my old house.)
  • “Wo ist der Bahnhof?” (Where is the train station?) – I need to ask this often!

New Job – More German

I also got a new job at a company that sells computer software. They have lots of German clients. So, I need to speak German all day long.

  • “Bitte senden Sie mir den Preisplan.” (Please send me the price plan.)
  • “Ich verstehe die Aufgabe nicht.” (I don’t understand the task.)
  • “Vielen Dank für Ihre Hilfe.” (Thank you for your help.) – I use this *a lot*.

Friends and Social Life

Before, my friends lived far away. Now, some of them have moved to Berlin too. It’s nice to see them regularly.

  • “Möchtest du mit mir ins Kino gehen?” (Would you like to go to the cinema with me?)
  • “Was machst du am Wochenende?” (What do you do on the weekend?)
  • “Ich freue mich dich zu sehen!” (I’m happy to see you!)

Shopping and Daily Life

Even small things have changed. I go to the supermarket in the city centre now.

  • “Wie viel kostet das Brot?” (How much does the bread cost?)
  • “Ich brauche Milch und Eier.” (I need milk and eggs.)
  • “Entschuldigung, ist dieser Platz frei?” (Excuse me, is this seat free?)

Learning and Practice

I am trying to practice my German every day. I read German newspapers, watch German television and talk to my colleagues. It’s challenging, but it’s also exciting!

  • “Ich lerne jeden Tag neue Wörter.” (I learn new words every day.)
  • “Kannst du das bitte wiederholen?” (Can you please repeat that?)
  • “Wie geht es dir?” (How are you?) – I ask this frequently.

I hope this gives you a little idea of how my life is now. It’s definitely more complicated, but I am enjoying the challenge of using my German more and more.
