Cleaning in German Kindertagesstätten (Kitas)
Hello! My name is John Doe, and I work at a Kita in Germany. Today, I want to tell you a little bit about cleaning – it’s really important in our Kita! It keeps everyone safe and healthy.
Why is Cleaning So Important?
Germs are everywhere, even if we can’t always see them. Little children touch lots of things, and then put their hands in their mouths. Cleaning helps to get rid of these germs.
“Wir müssen die Fläche des Spielplatzes reinigen,” I tell the children. (We need to clean the surface of the playground.)
Daily Cleaning – What We Do
Every day, we do some cleaning, even if it’s just a little bit.
- Handwashing: We wash children’s hands after they play outside or after they’ve been to the toilet. “Wasch deine Hände mit Seife!” (Wash your hands with soap!) This is super important.
- Cleaning Toys: After the children play with toys, we wipe them down with disinfectant wipes. “Die Puppen sind sauber!” (The dolls are clean!)
- Cleaning Tables and Surfaces: We clean tables and high chairs after each meal. “Wir putzen die Tischplatte.” (We clean the table top.)
- Floors: We sweep or vacuum the floors regularly. “Das Staubsauger ist nützlich.” (The vacuum cleaner is useful.)
More Thorough Cleaning – Once a Week
Once a week, we do a more thorough clean.
- Bathrooms: We clean all the toilets, sinks, and floors in the bathrooms. “Ich wische die Toilette sauber.” (I wipe the toilet clean.)
- Playrooms: We dust all the shelves and furniture, and we mop the floors. “Mopfen ist anstrengend.” (Mopping is tiring.)
- Changing Tables: We disinfect all changing tables after each use. “Das ist wichtig für die Hygiene.” (This is important for hygiene.)
Important Things to Remember
- Disinfectant: We always use disinfectant – it kills germs! “Das Desinfektionsmittel ist sehr stark.” (The disinfectant is very strong.)
- Gloves: We always wear gloves when we are cleaning. “Trage immer Handschuhe!” (Always wear gloves!)
- Following Procedures: Every Kita has rules about cleaning. It’s important to follow these rules. “Bitte befolge die Anweisungen.” (Please follow the instructions.)
Useful Phrases
Here are a few more phrases you might hear:
- “Die Küche ist sauber.” (The kitchen is clean.)
- “Wir müssen den Boden wischen.” (We need to wipe the floor.)
- “Das ist ein sauberes Zimmer.” (This is a clean room.)
I hope this has helped you understand a little bit about cleaning in a Kita. It’s a very important job!
