Sharing Weekend Plans & Past Experiences – A Simple Guide
Hello! My name is John Doe, and I’m here to help you practice speaking German. Today, we’re going to learn how to talk about your weekend plans and share some experiences from the past. This is a really useful skill for everyday conversation – at work, with friends, or even when making new acquaintances.
Talking About Weekend Plans (Pläne für das Wochenende)
It’s common to ask about someone’s weekend plans. Here are some useful phrases:
- “Was hast du dieses Wochenende gemacht?” (What did you do this weekend?) – A classic question!
- “Was machst du dieses Wochenende?” (What are you doing this weekend?) – Asking about future plans.
- “Ich gehe ins Kino.” (I’m going to the cinema.) – Simple statement of an activity.
- “Wir essen Pizza.” (We are eating pizza.) – Using ‘wir’ (we) to talk about group plans.
- “Ich ruhe mich aus.” (I’m resting.) – A common response if you just want to relax.
- “Ich treffe mich mit Freunden.” (I’m meeting with friends.) – Talking about social gatherings.
Let’s say you’re talking to Mary Carry. You could say: “Ich gehe am Samstag ins Schwimmbad. Sonntags ruhe ich mich aus.” (I’m going to the swimming pool on Saturday. On Sunday, I’m resting.)
Sharing Past Experiences (Erlebnisse aus der Vergangenheit)
Talking about past experiences is also very important.
- “Letztes Wochenende war schön.” (Last weekend was nice.) – A general statement.
- “Ich war im Urlaub.” (I was on vacation.) – Describing a trip.
- “Ich habe ein Konzert besucht.” (I attended a concert.) – Talking about attending an event.
- “Ich habe mit meiner Familie gegessen.” (I ate with my family.) – Sharing a family activity.
- “Ich habe einen Film gesehen.” (I watched a movie.) – Another common experience.
Imagine you are talking to your colleague, David Miller: “Letztes Wochenende habe ich einen neuen Film gesehen. Er war sehr gut!” (Last weekend I watched a new movie. It was very good!)
Combining the Two
You can easily combine these topics. For instance:
“Was hast du dieses Wochenende gemacht? Ich war letzte Woche im Urlaub in Berlin. Es war toll!” (What did you do this weekend? I was on vacation in Berlin last week. It was great!)
Practice Time!
Now it’s your turn. Try to create short conversations using the phrases above. Don’t worry about making mistakes – that’s how you learn! The most important thing is to start speaking.
