Cleaning protocols in daycare centers (Kitas)

Cleaning in the Kita – It’s Important!

Hello! My name is Jan Schmidt, and I work as a Reinigungskraft (cleaning worker) at a Kita called “Sonnenblume” (Sunflower). I want to tell you a little about how we keep the Kita clean and safe for all the children. It’s really important work!

Why is Cleaning Important?

Children touch everything. They play on the floor, they draw on the walls (we try to stop them!), and they put things in their mouths. Germs (Krankheitserreger) are everywhere. Cleaning helps to get rid of these germs and keep the children healthy.

Our Cleaning Routine

We have a plan – a Routine (Routinen) – for cleaning every day. It’s like a checklist (eine Checkliste).

1. Morning Cleaning (Morgendliche Reinigung): When the children arrive, I quickly wipe down the tables and chairs. “Bitte putzen Sie die Tische!” (Please clean the tables!) I always use disinfectant wipes.

2. Handwashing (Handwaschung): Before everything, we wash our hands! “Waschen Sie Ihre Hände bitte!” (Wash your hands please!). We use soap and water for at least 20 seconds – that’s a long time to sing “Happy Birthday” twice.

3. Floor Cleaning (Bodenreinigung): After snack time, I mop the floor with a special cleaning solution (eine spezielle Reinigungslösung). “Der Boden ist jetzt sauber!” (The floor is now clean!).

4. Toy Cleaning (Spielzeugreinigung): Every afternoon, Mary Carry (the Erzieherin – kindergarten teacher) and I clean all the toys. We wipe them down with disinfectant. “Das Spielzeug ist sauber!” (The toys are clean!).

5. Bathroom Cleaning (Badezimmerreinigung): The bathroom needs extra attention. We clean the toilet, sink, and floor after every use. “Bitte spülen Sie die Toilette!” (Please flush the toilet!).

Important Things to Remember

  • Disinfectant (Desinfektionsmittel): We always use disinfectant to kill germs.
  • Gloves (Handschuhe): I always wear gloves when I clean. “Die Handschuhe sind wichtig!” (The gloves are important!).
  • Cleaning Products (Reinigungsmittel): We only use cleaning products that are safe for children. “Das Reinigungsmittel ist für Kinder sicher!” (The cleaning product is safe for children!).

I hope this gives you a little understanding of how we keep the Kita clean. It’s a team effort (ein Teamwork) – everyone helps!
